Our authentic handcrafted brass beds represent the true art and heritage of our company. We offer traditional solid brass beds, brass daybeds and brass canopy beds, all made by hand, one at a time by our experienced craftsmen. Some of our brass bed models have been in continuous production since our founding in 1855; a vivid representation of the longevity of our classic styling and excellence in workmanship. For generations, brass beds have been highly desirable as objects that reflect quality, sophistication and elegance. Compared with iron or steel, brass is an expensive and relatively soft metal. Due to its cost and the skill needed to properly make a brass beds, there are very few true brass beds made today. To make a quality product one must be prepared to be generous with both the quantity of brass and the care given to fabrication and finish. This is our tradition and each of our brass beds represent this commitment to you.
Handcrafted Solid Brass Beds
Decorative parts on our brass beds are cast out of molten brass in specially prepared molds. We use only traditional methods of casting such as green sand molds and lost wax casting techniques. The castings, casting are then transferred to metal lathe machines to accurately finish parts for precise assembly. All of the tubing is heavy wall, pure cartridge brass manufactured primarily in the US, with some specialty items coming from Germany and Japan.
Handcrafted Brass Canopy Beds
Dramatic and impressive, a brass canopy bed is the show piece of any bedroom. We offer our solid brass canopy bed in a polished or antique brass finish. Also available in stainless steel and brass.
Handcrafted Brass Daybeds
We offer both a solid brass daybed and a stainless steel and brass daybed. Components are unique to this bed, especially cast for the design. Needing a mattress only, these daybeds come with an upholstered deck for proper support and are available with an optional pop-up trundle unit for storing another spare mattress underneath the daybed.
Brass Bed Assembly
Every brass bed is made one at a time by our craftsmen at our Rutherford, New Jersey facility. We use special machinery in our workshop to make every cut accurate and square to ensure the integrity of the brass beds design and structure. Our proprietary system of hidden fasteners has been developed over generations to neatly and strongly assemble our brass beds.
Brass Bed Finishes
True brass beds have a unique and beautiful glow that is best enhanced with simple finishes. No miracle coatings or paint can mimic the luminocity of a properly finished brass bed. A thin finish or coating will wear through quickly and age poorly with normal use. In contrast, our brass bed finishes, brass finish are hand applied and involve converting the surface of the brass not coating it with paint or dye. Our finishes are “softâ€, meaning they are repairable and will continue to age in a natural and attractive manner with minimal care. Over time, our brass beds will develop the much sought after “patinaâ€, and will continue to reveal the quality and integrity inherent in their design and construction.
